My name is Tom Harker and I am a USPTA-certified teaching professional with over 30 years of teaching experience. I am originally from South Jersey, where I was the head pro at the Coliseum Sports Complex and Woodcrest Country Club. I have coached many highly ranked high school, college, and middle states players. A number of my students have even gone on to become tennis instructors and coaches themselves.
During the year I am involved with a number of different tennis projects:
- From January to March I am an instructor for the USTA Gold Cup Program at three different clubs: Great Valley, Tennis Addiction and Springton.
- During the spring, summer, and fall, I run USTA Junior Tennis Teams at Valley Creek Park and Marple Newtown High School.
- In the spring and fall I am the head coach at Marple-Newtown High School for the boys and girls varsity and junior varsity teams.
- I also teach private lessons by appointment.
For over thirteen years, I have hired and evaluated coaches for my children. This year, three of my children began taking lessons with Tom while my two oldest children played for his team in the USTA Jr. Team Tennis program. I have never been more impressed with a coach as I am with Tom Harker. Tom manages individuals and teams with ease and professionalism. His ability to think, communicate and challenge the development of each person is truly amazing.

Playing on a USTA team with Tom can help players keep a competitive mentality while not having to deal with the stress of their high school program. It is a perfect chance to play against different types of opponents and grow in match-play experience.
– Chris Herman, 3rd singles, West Chester Henderson, Villanova University Club Team
Tom knows all of the technical aspects of the game and has the ability to teach everyone from children just starting to play tennis, to competition level players, to adults – all in a fun, intelligent and friendly manner. Rather than teach me how to play tennis, Tom taught me how to learn – the lessons that he teaches can be applied to all aspects of life.
– Dennis Chao, Conestoga High School Varsity Player, Duke University Club Team
I had a lot of fun during the USTA team. There was a good balance of fun but also hard work. I played singles at my high school team and I felt I got a lot of practice hitting with some of the boys during our USTA practices. I really enjoyed my experience playing for Tom.

We met Tom when our two kids finished playing on their middle school tennis teams. Their skills were just good enough to get by so they needed some help. Tom was just the inspiration they needed! He is great at identifying their strengths and weaknesses, and uses that information creatively to teach them. They are definitely playing at a higher level now and enjoy using their new skills. Best of all, they look forward to their next tennis lesson.
