Although tennis is typically thought of as an individual sport, team tennis exists on many levels: high school, college, professional, and even USTA amateur team tennis. During the year I work with the following high school and USTA junior tennis teams:
- USTA Jr. Teams at Valley Creek and Marple High School
- Marple Newtown High School Girls
- Marple Newtown High School Boys
And I was previously involved with the following teams:
I have great memories from playing on my high school and college teams. Competition between teammates pushed me to practice harder and with greater focus. I developed a hunger to learn new skills that others had mastered while also learning how to work cooperatively for the benefit of everyone on the team. My coaches guided me through difficult times and pointed me in a positive direction that has lasted a lifetime.
Team tennis should be looked upon as a vital part in the development of every tennis player; it is an exciting experience in their life that is both supportive and rewarding.
Once you’ve been part of a tennis team, it’s hard not to want to do it again and again. Below are alumni from my teams who have continued to play organized tennis in college at either the varsity or club level.
