I coach USTA junior team tennis (as part of the Suburban Philadelphia Team Tennis Association) at Marple Newtown High School during the spring, summer, and fall.
My teams are part of the USTA junior team tennis program, which gives kids the chance to play tennis as part of a team and compete against other local junior teams. Junior team tennis is an ideal way for varsity and junior varsity high school players to gain match experience during their offseasons and improve their skills for the upcoming team tryouts.
Junior team tennis is also great for kids who are homeschooled or go to private schools that do not offer a tennis program.
I coach three seasons of junior team tennis:
- March-April: Girls only, 18 and under
- May-June: Boys and girls co-ed, 18 and under
- September-October: Boys only, 18 and under
There are a total of 6 to 7 practices and matches during each two-month season. Practices and home matches are held at Marple Newtown High School. Away matches are held at neighboring tennis clubs and courts.
Each boys only and girls only team plays 3 singles and 2 doubles matches during each meet. The co-ed teams play boys and girls singles, boys and girls doubles, and mixed doubles. Ideally we will have 7-8 players on each team, and I will put together multiple teams as more players come out.
If a team does well, there is an opportunity for postseason play against teams from outside our immediate area, all the way up to a national level.
Registration is now open for the 2017 spring, summer, and fall sessions. Click the links below to sign up:
Every year we have between 20 and 30 boys and girls join our USTA teams. Make this the year you show up in one of our team photos.
